When we first arrived on Siargao Island in 1997, the only available crop at that time was rice and root crops. Vegetables and meats imported were chemically treated to keep them fresh and presentable. There was a clear need to pioneer Organic Farming.
In 2009 with absolutely no farming experience, we set out on a crazy but fun journey. We learned about the science of growing 100% organic food on a small tropical island using local resources. The passion and love to grow food organically grew in our hearts. It was amazing to eat something we labored for in love that was also good for both our bodies and for the beautiful island of Siargao
We can now say that we have succeeded in our journey! We supply a wide variety of fresh veggies and a variety of herbs. We also offer free range organic meat to resorts and for private sale on a weekly basis throughout the island. We see growth every year and are experimenting with new products.
On a weekly basis, our Hope for the Island team travel out into surrounding communities to deliver food stocks and other supplements. Kids are provided with the desperately needed vital nutrients to help their precious bodies recover. Time spent with each family allows us to monitor changes as well as provide counsel and loving support. What a blessing it is to see little ones flourish who may not be alive otherwise.
Farm customers can confidently order healthy farm to table local organic food. Proceeds from each sale support community based development and programs for the poor of Siargao Island (see Community page for more detail). Our goal can be summed up as sustainable farming for sustainable community service.
